The View From The Chair

As chairman of the club, I would like to pass on my congratulations and thanks to everyone associated with Rovers for their efforts and results this season. Just over two years ago, the Rovers committee took the decision to start again in an attempt to turn the club around. Both teams were languishing well adrift at the foot of their respective tables and player numbers were on the decline. A lot of new blood was needed to compliment the lads who were already at the club to start that rebuilding process.
Two years later, we have come a long way to achieving our ultimate goal of putting Rovers back on the map, and that is down to each and every one of you lads and ladies. We do obviously still have quite a way to go, but I'm looking at next season and believe that it will be the most successful for the club since the 1999 season.
We have two excellent managers, Andy Hair our 1st team boss has improved the team again this term and Paul Mears. our 2nd team boss has come in and made an immediate impact, turning the reserve team into a unit to be reckoned with.
Player numbers have increased in a way that means that some lads don't necessarily get a shirt every week, and it is these lads who are the corner stone of our club.
We have lots of young exciting talent in our ranks with Neil Myers, Andy Dickson, Matt Vaal, the unmistakeable Alex Goulden, Josh Liptrot, Connah Dainty and in my opinion our most improved player Stu Myers who will all add value to either team.
We've had new recruits such as Dave Walker, Ian Hayes, Ray Booth, Callum Bristow and Rob Miller who have contributed massively to our turn around. Stu Williams got better as the season went on, and Simon Park who stood on the line more than most, provided good versatility when it was needed. There are the lads who appear to have been around for ages such as Graham Croft who never stops running, Neil Shannon had another great season, Bri Seddon our lead by example club captain and the much improved Ian Chesworth. Add to these the likes of Scott Farrimond, Rob Riding and Harry Bristow and we have a solid foundation along with the the ever youngs' Kev Johnson, Tim Hilton and Len Rainford who can still teach the younger lads a thing or two. There's Mr Rovers himself Bob Taylor who's had his best season for a while, and Stu Unsworth, who at the age of 40+ has siezed his opportunity and made the 1st team right back position his own.
Of course we've lost a couple of lads, the Olukmen brothers decided to call it a day, when both were playing consistently well, but the biggest loss is going to be Degsy Booth. He's moving to a higher standard and, on behalf of the club I'd like to wish him all the best for the furture.
My final thanks goes to the committee, who have each contributed to the clubs turn around. These guys meet every month, they take and resolve issues in their own time to ensure that each of you can continue playing every Saturday.
If I have missed anyone, I apologise, but we are looking stronger than ever. The coming season is going to be the best in years. Rovers will be back on the map, and it is the contribution of each of you that will make it happen, so thankyou, and good luck for the coming season.

Shaun.
